Producers, directors and casting agents constantly call
on young actors to perform scripted pieces on the spot,
or even make up material. It's the actor who is prepared
to give them what they want that will get the role! In
this class you'll learn to think quickly on your feet,
learn to keep moving after mistakes (yours or those of
others), do even better at auditions, and make the best
of unexpected situations. It all comes from a good dose
of improv! Its more than just a comedic art for, it's a
way to survive and get ahead as a young actor!
The class is a fun, hands-on experience that uses games
and exercises to bring home simple fundamentals you
won't soon forget! Students will explore some basic
fundamentals of how to approach a role and give you
simple tools to use that will give you the confidence
you need AND put you miles ahead of the competition!
It's all based on simple concepts that most actors know
to use, but they don't always remember how to best apply
them.
Ninety percent of auditions, in some form or fashion,
include the art of improv! Students often uncover skills
they didn't even know they had! Look at acting in a
whole new way, and have fun learning how to give
directors, producers, and employers just what they're
looking for- quickly, smoothly, and with ease!
The class is taught by improv performer and actor Barry
McAlister. He has long been an on-camera actor and
entertainer in the region. He is currently with the
acclaimed troupe Improv Nashville, and has trained at
the Second City in Chicago in improv and sketch comedy.
He was also a Wolf Trap Teaching Artist in Metro
Nashville Schools. Roles he's created include "the dead
guy" in country artist Joe Diffie's "Prop Me Up Beside
the Juke Box", and the ice skating $100 bill for First
Tennessean and the Predators. He also had the regions
longest running children's stage show "Juniper
Junction". Barry's also a father of three- one
professional dancer in NYC, one singer-dancer aspiring
to cruise line work, and a young film-maker in the
works.
Don't miss your chance to Get Ahead through Improv for
the Young Actor.
